In the past 25 days, there have been at least three more reported cases of people suffering cardiac arrests in Aligarh. An eight-year-old girl experienced a heart attack while playing in Lodhi Nagar, while a doctor passed away from a cardiac arrest as she was getting ready for work.
Rising trend
Another tragic incident took place on November 20, when Syed Barkat Haider, the son of former Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice-chancellor SM Afzal, died due to a heart attack.
There has been a worrying trend of heart attacks among young people in Uttar Pradesh recently. In September, a 9-year-old girl died after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing at her school in Lucknow. The school reported that the girl lost consciousness while playing in the playground, and she was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
