New Delhi: A massive oven explosion ripped through the Medley Bread Factory in Hariparvat’s Transport Nagar, Agra, on Thursday afternoon, leaving 13 workers injured, three critically. The blast heard kilometres away, sent shockwaves through the area and prompted a swift emergency response from the administration and other emergency services.
The blast occurred around 1 PM when over 20 workers were working inside the factory. The factory manager, Jitendra, reported that the large, gas-operated oven burst without warning during normal operations, hinting at a potential gas leak as the cause. Workers were thrown by the force of the blast, resulting in various injuries. “We were working as usual, and suddenly, the oven burst. The ovens run on gas,” Jitendra told news agency PTI.
Local residents, alerted by the huge sound, rushed to the factory to provide immediate assistance. Thirteen injured workers were quickly transported to nearby hospitals via ambulances and private vehicles. Three of the most seriously injured are receiving critical care at a private hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Suraj Rai confirmed the incident and the hospitalization of the injured workers. He stated that an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the oven explosion. This investigation will likely focus on the potential gas leak and the factory’s safety protocols.
“The injured workers have been hospitalised. Three of them are in critical condition and are being treated at a private hospital. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the oven blast,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Suraj Rai said.
