Kerala : Mob attack house of youth who married a Muslim girl, one held

Kozhikode: In a shocking incident from Vadakara in Kozhikode district, a group of people targeted the family of a youth, vandalized the properties, man handled the elderly and women during the early hours of Sunday at Mangalad, a small town near Vadakara. Police sources from Vadakara confirm that the house of Nithu Mohandas was targeted after he had been receiving threats following his marriage with Afrah.

As per sources, the furniture’s, window panes and pooja materials were damaged by the mob who barged into the house during the early hours of the day. The parents of the youngsters were also attacked and had sustained injuries.

In connection with the attack, one individual named Moosa has been arrested by the Vadakara police. Following a complaint filed by the family, the police is probing the case as the rest of the members who had attacked the family is still on the run.

As per police, a mob of 50 members attacked the house, damaged the furniture’s and glass, vandalized the pooja room and left the spot.

What police say

Nithu had married Afrah on October 10 at Mangalad in Vadakara. However, Afrah’s family was objecting to the marriage as the Nithu was from a different faith. The couple had lived in the house along with the family. However, they have been receiving threats from unknown people. However, police sources say that the attack was following the argument between both the families after the marriage. When the attack took place Nithu and Afrah were not present in the house.

As per the complaint filed by Mohandas, the Vadakara police have registered a case and have begun investigation. Police stated that they have clear inputs on the accused and the arrest of all the 50 will happen soon.

Family members say that both Nithu and Afrah was threatened by unknown people through phone for the past one week.

However, family members of Nithu was unwilling to divulge more details on the matter when contacted.
