Bengaluru school charges Rs 1.5 lakh for Nursery; sparks debate on social media

New Delhi: A debate has sparked on social media regarding a Bengaluru school’s fee structure for nursery and junior KG admission for the 2024-25 academic session. As per the image of the fee structure breakup that is circulating, the total fee payable at the time of admission is Rs, 1,51,656. The school has included a ‘parent orientation charge’ which is a one-time fee of Rs 8,400. Additionally, Rs 55,638 is the one admission fee and Rs 30,019 is the ‘caution money’.

The total amount due at the time of admission does not include the orientation fee that is payable upon enrollment of students.

The photo of the fee structure of the unnamed school is shared by Dr Jagdish Chaturvedi on X (formerly Twitter). Dr Chaturvedi remarked, ‘8400 INR parent orientation fee! No parent will ever agree to pay even 20% of this for a doctor’s consultation. I am planning to open a school now.’

Reactions in social media

Soon after the post, the social media flooded with varied reactions. While some blamed the government stating that it has given private schools a free hand to decide the fee for admission. A user has also argued for a reform in the education system asking for some startup to come up with an affordable price structure also with a sound quality of education.

A user stated, “Was lucky in our and children’s times. Quality education at a reasonable price. Now it is pure dacoity in the name of education which is also pedestrian. The ownership and revenue sharing models of private schools and colleges tell us clearly about what ails the country.”

A few months back in April, a man from Delhi disclosed that he had made a payment of Rs 4.3 lakh for his son’s playschool fees. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), ‘My son’s Playschool fee is more than my entire education expense. I hope he learns to play well here’.
